The Storm is at home against the Sharks Friday night, and the Cats and Lions are gearing up for an epic Saturday afternoon showdown, but Ambulance Victoria (AV) is taking a punt on you to deliver a best-on-ground performance by celebrating safely this long weekend.
โWe know many Victorians will be out and about enjoying the AFL grand final long weekend, and itโs one of the busiest weekends of the year for AV. Our ask is pretty simple โ please save paramedics for life-threatening emergencies,โ Mr Georgiou said.
โWhether youโre hitting the road, heading to your local, a friendโs place, or even AAMI Park and the MCG to enjoy the games, weโre asking people to please drink responsibly, stay hydrated and look out for your mates.
โItโs important to know how to access the most appropriate medical care and health advice for your needs in the right place, at the right time โ when itโs not a life-threatening emergency.
โOur priority will always be responding to the sickest people first. There are many options people can access when they need timely medical care and health advice but donโt need an emergency ambulance, including a free online video call with the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department or visiting an Urgent Care Clinic.โ
Hereโs our winning tips for a great finals weekend:
- Keep hydrated and drink responsibly.
- Slip, slop, slap.
- Look after your mates.
- Be careful around water.
- Plan your trips to and from where youโll be watching the game.
- Be safe on the roads.
For non-life-threatening emergencies:
ย If itโs not an emergency, you can seek help from:
- Nurse on Call (24/7)ย – 1300 60 60 24
- Urgent Care Clinics
- Better Health Channel
- Your local GP or pharmacist.
Enjoy the finals frenzy, celebrate responsibly and help us keep this grand final weekend safe for all Victorians.
If you or someone youโre with is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
