MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER
552ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF GURU NANAK
I send my warmest greetings to Sikh communities across Australia and around the world on the occasion of the 552nd anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak.
This is a time for Sikh people everywhere to honour your faith and heritage as you reflect on Guru Nanak’s teachings, and what it means to live a life full of love, honesty and service.
Over the past two years of pandemic, we have all learned so much. As I’ve talked to Australians, they’ve told me one thing in particular: “We worked out what’s important.” In different ways, Australians have been reminded of what they value most in life.
Sikh Australians demonstrate again and again they understand what’s most important. Pursuing a life of kindness and generosity; and of service and perseverance – qualities that encapsulate the Sikh philosophy.
Devotion to community is at the heart of Sikhism. Your community spirit has been called upon countless times over the past two years, and you have answered every call with energy, care and concern.
You remind Australians that no challenge is too great if good people tackle it together. I honour our Sikh community for your generous and valued contribution.
With every act of sewa, you contribute to one of Australia’s most shining achievements — that we are the most successful multicultural nation on earth.
I wish you all the best for a safe and joyful celebration in honour of Guru Nanak, and every happiness for the year ahead.
The Hon Scott Morrison MP
Prime Minister of Australia
